Ian joined Burgoynes in 1998 and became a Partner in 2007.
He has experience investigating incidents of a materials and engineering nature, both on land and at sea, and has travelled extensively to destinations including Europe, Scandinavia, Canada, South America, India, South Africa and North Africa.
Ian has investigated numerous land-based incidents involving equipment, plant and machinery in many industries including manufacturing, power generation, construction, transport, petro-chemical and refrigeration. He has also investigated the causes of transmission losses in optical cables, both on land and on the seabed. Ian also undertakes marine investigations into, for example, the causes of crane collapses, wire rope fractures, bearing damage, engine component fractures, corrosion of holds and pipework and paint coating issues. During these investigations, he has attended VLCCs, tankers and bulk carriers, both at sea and in dry dock. Ian coordinates Burgoynes’ team of experts involved in investigating losses arising from air-borne contamination such as smoke and dust. Investigations into such matters have been undertaken both on land and on ships.
Ian is familiar with the Civil Procedure Rules and has often given expert evidence in court including the High Court and Technology and Construction Court. He has also attended inquests, mediations and arbitration tribunals.
